December 2025 Pradosham Vrat: Dates, Significance, and Auspicious Timings

The month of December 2025 brings two auspicious opportunities for observing the Pradosham Vrat, a sacred fast dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Observed on the 13th lunar day (Trayodashi Tithi) of both the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) and Krishna Paksha (waning moon), this ritual is performed during the twilight hour, known as Pradosh Kaal.

Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Shiva during this divine time can lead to the fulfillment of desires, absolution from sins, and attainment of prosperity and peace.

🕉️ Significance of December Pradosham Vrat

The name of the Pradosham Vrat changes based on the day of the week it falls on, lending it a special significance:

1. Bhauma Pradosh Vrat (December 2, 2025 – Tuesday)

  • “Bhauma” refers to the planet Mars (Mangal), whose ruling deity is Lord Murugan (Kartikeya), the son of Lord Shiva.
  • Observing Bhauma Pradosh is considered highly beneficial for those seeking to overcome debt (Runa Mukti), find relief from financial difficulties, and gain victory over adversaries. It is also a powerful day to pray for good health and strength.

2. Budha Pradosh Vrat (December 17, 2025 – Wednesday)

  • “Budha” refers to the planet Mercury, associated with Lord Ganesha (another son of Lord Shiva) and Goddess Durga.
  • A Budha Pradosh Vrat is especially auspicious for achieving success in education, business, and careers. Devotees observing this vrat are blessed with good intellect, wisdom, and a harmonious family life.

🙏 How to Observe Pradosham Vrat

The central act of the Pradosham Vrat is the worship performed during the ‘Pradosh Kaal’—the period starting approximately 1.5 hours before sunset and ending 1.5 hours after sunset.

  • Fasting: Devotees observe a fast from sunrise until the evening puja. Many observe a Nirjala Vrat (without water) or consume only milk and fruits during the day. The fast is broken after the evening worship.
  • Purification: The devotee should take a bath an hour before sunset and prepare for the evening puja.
  • Puja Rituals:
    • Worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Lord Murugan, and Nandi (Lord Shiva’s mount).
    • Perform an Abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Lingam with water, milk, curd, honey, and ghee.
    • Chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra and the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” multiple times.
    • Read the Pradosh Vrat Katha (story) and conclude the puja with an Aarti.

Observing the Pradosham Vrat with sincere devotion is said to bring the grace of Lord Shiva and clear the devotee’s path of obstacles and karmic burdens.
